Baby Boomlet: Poor Ignorant America
NOTE: Expanded at 4:51 pm EST
I've been away from blogging for this past month (will let you know why after next Tuesday). But an Associated Press story here has me fuming.
The article concerns America's current "baby boomlet," which sees our nation with its highest birth rate since 1961. Here's the line that infuriated me:
Experts believe there is a mix of reasons: a decline in contraceptive use, a drop in access to abortion, poor education and poverty. The piece (of what I won't say) goes on to say that, oh yeah, Americans also like having babies more than most other countries, but the arrogance of the "experts" is still present. These people obviously have not considered the view that children are a blessing from God, and lots of us like making them for that reason.
Wish I had time to comment further on other paragraphs in this awful swill, but here's the kicker: The boomlet (thanks largely to Hispanic immigrants) only brings our birthrate up to 2.1, which is replacement level. In other words, we've been slowly dying off, and somehow the experts must think that's a good thing.
Sadly, even within the church there are too many young couples who say, "we want two, a boy first" and don't think beyond that little non-multiplying number (remember that "be fruitful" command?). The reason for this, in my "expert" opinion, is that even Christian young people have been swallowed up by the cult of self esteem, and view having children as mere fulfillment of their own lives, rather than God's "great commission" to expand and establish His kingdom on earth.

You're right, this kind of stuff is infuriating.
In Japan, the negative population growth is a major, major, major crisis. It is a huge problem in Europe, too, compounded by the challenges of immigrants from Muslim nations with no such effete notions.
At the same time: the wish to be left alone by God is the death wish, is it not?
And can we be shocked when it is literally expressed, in these manners?
Peace, my philoprocreative brother!

Jim:
I read an article on the front page of this morning's Washington Post that said the number of abortions in the USA was down to its lowest total since 1976.
Unfortunately both sides of the abortion debate took credit for the decrease. The head of Planne Parenthood said that it might be because of the proliferation of the Abortion Pill RU-486.
The head of the National Right to Life Committee said it's moving in the right direction, and said some of the reason for the decline could be because of a change in attitudes.
Abortions tend to be higher in the Northeast, lower in the South and Midwest. The proportion of pregnancies ending in abotion also declined, down from 24.5 percent in 2000 to 22.4 percent in 2005 - the latest numbers available.
But there's a snake in the woodpile. The article said that many OB-GYNs are now handing out RU 486 to patients - doctors who did not do abortions are allowing women a "do it yourself kit."
So the question is, how do we light the candle?
What is Jesus' opinion on this?
Has abortion really decreased or has it just chosen a so-called "cleaner" method, where clinics are not needed and surgical abortion is passé?
Just thinkin'

Traditional marriage is the foundation for traditional families and strong values. There's an eye-opening comparison of GOP Candidates positions on marriage over at this blog:

Hey Jim:
AMEN!! Young couples should really pray about this very issue. God does say that children are a blessing, so why are so many young couples not grasping this TRUTH? I was there and thank God he has shown our family that Children are truly a wonderful blessing from the LORD. ...."BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY"
What percent goes to the Latinos invading out country. My Bible says not to reward evil (sneaking into a country and stealing benifits awy from seniors and college kids) with good I am born again and let that rule my vote with Bush I have asked forgiveness for this act

Maybe this is the draw of Romney. He's a mormon and they have large families.
Like the bumper sticker says, "stupid people shouldn't breed". However, they do. And the more stupid people that breed makes the smart people the minority.
That could be why we have a generation so eager to be indoctrinated into socialist and liberal politics.
Stupid people shouldn't vote? Obviously intelligent people put thought into the process of having child. Going by the numbers, we're always going to have more of the stupid people breeding.
Sadly, this means more liberal voters.
GOD creates ALL of us. God created the USA and chooses who he sends here. God is sovereign and in control 100%. Burt is your sin any less than that of one who breaks the law of crossing the border? Please read God's word as a whole book and don't choose His word out of context for your political points. The next time you speed you are breaking the law. Does that make you evil? Illegal immigration os a grave problew for our county. Illegal immigrants are God's children. YOUR brothers and sisters.
Re: Micky's Childish Rambling
There is no scripture that states God micromanages the people of Earth. In fact, the scriptures refer directly to "free will" being imparted up on man by God. This is why God doesn't exercise have 100% control as you suggest.
comparing speeding to border hopping, while similar in Gods eyes, is not similar in the eyes of man. It's like comparing speeding to murder. In this realm of existance, man effects justice. I'm sure God has his own plan to prevent Illegal Immigration from Hell to Heaven.
